Disclosure: I’m an independent jBloom Designer, and I earn a commission when you purchase through my links.
Earnings vary, and no particular income is guaranteed. This post is general information, not a promise of results.
Permanent jewelry is everywhere right now, and I get asked a lot whether it could work as a permanent jewelry side business. I’m a jBloom Designer, so I’ll share what jBloom says about getting started, what the day-to-day looks like, and who it may (or may not) be a fit for. I’ll keep it honest, because this kind of business takes real effort.
What a jBloom Designer actually does
A designer sells jBloom’s three product lines: PermaLinx permanent jewelry, personalized jewelry and fashion jewelry. According to jBloom’s join page, you sell wherever people are, such as parties, pop-ups and markets, and customers can also order through your personal jBloom website.
That means this is a people business. You’ll spend your time talking with customers, booking appointments, following up and sharing what you do on social media. If that sounds fun to you, great. If you’d rather not talk to anyone, it may not be the right fit.
What a PermaLinx appointment looks like
jBloom says each bracelet takes about 3 to 6 minutes to put on. A personal appointment is around 15 minutes, and a group boutique runs 1 to 2 hours. You can see the details on the PermaLinx by jBloom page. If you’ve never seen one done, my guide to what PermaLinx permanent jewelry is and how to get one walks through the customer side.
What it costs to start
Here is what jBloom lists as of today. Please confirm the current details on their site before you decide:
- The PermaLinx Collection and the jBloom Collection are each listed at $175, and the Perfect Pair Collection at $325 (jBloom says it saves $25 versus buying both).
- The PermaLinx starter includes chains, practice bracelets, tools and supplies, plus PermaLinx Pro certification, per jBloom.
- A monthly business suite is listed at $12.99, or $17.99 with the newsletter, and jBloom says the first month is free. It covers a personal website, back office and marketing tools.
- jBloom’s page says there are no monthly minimums, and buying extra stock is optional.
Your own costs, time and results will differ from anyone else’s, so do the math for your situation before you join.
Support, training and community
jBloom says every new designer is matched with a mentor from day one, gets free PermaLinx Pro certification through on-demand video and live sessions, and receives monthly marketing materials. As someone who has been on the other side of the “where do I start?” question, I can tell you that having people to ask makes a big difference. You can read the full list on the join page.
Questions to ask yourself first
- Do I enjoy meeting people and talking about style?
- Can I set aside regular hours for parties, appointments and posting?
- Am I comfortable with the cost of a starter collection and the monthly fee?
- Have I read jBloom’s Terms of Use and compensation information?
If you’re still deciding, I also wrote about why I joined jBloom as a designer. And if you’d like to try the fun side first, you can host a PermaLinx party through Event VIP and see how it feels.
